Anita Zaidi, Professor and Chair of the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health at Aga Khan University, Karachi, Pakistan, was among the first batch of medical students to graduate from Karachi's Aga Khan University (AKU) in 1988. Zaidi strives to provide state-of-the-art training at AKU and believes professional mentorship is something that needs to be strengthened in Pakistan. Her determination to train and retain the next generation of paediatricians and researchers is allied to a commitment to advance research in child health, especially at the community level. Zaidi's research focuses on vaccine-preventable illnesses in children and neonatal infections.
