ANNOUNCEMENT & CALL FOR ABSTRACTS
Programme for Global Paediatric Research Symposium
Major Global Diseases of Childhood: Training for Sustainable Clinical Care and Research Monday, May 6, 2013 Washington, D.C.
The Programme for Global Paediatric Research (PGPR) engages paediatric researchers, societies, and other organizations committed to child health. It was formed in January 2004 to address the disparity between the scientific research resources available in high-income countries and the quantity of scientific research focused on the health of children in mid- and low-income countries. PGPR works at the centre of global networks to educate, facilitate international research collaboration, and advocate for research to improve the health of all children.
Symposium
PGPR’s 13th symposium will be held May 6, 2013 in conjunction with the annual meeting of the Pediatric Academic Societies (PAS). This three-part symposium is entitled:
Major Global Diseases of Childhood: Training for Sustainable Clinical Care and Research
Millions of children in developing regions face preventable illness and death each year. While solutions to this crisis need to be multi-faceted, it is clear that one essential tool to sustainable programs alleviating illness and death, is training in clinical care and research. This symposium profiles some of the major health issues affecting children in developing regions and puts forward examples of training programs focussed on sustainable clinical care and research. Parts 1 and 3 of the symposium will be comprised of expert presentations providing an overview of the problems and possible solutions. Part 2 will feature platform presentations from selected abstracts on this and other global child health topics.
Call for Abstracts
PGPR invites submissions of abstracts that relate to training for sustainable clinical care and research in developing countries or to other aspects of global child health. Abstracts are due by Thursday November 15, 2012 and should be submitted through the PAS website www.pas-meeting.org.
Abstracts should be submitted under the theme "Global Paediatric Research". Specifying this theme will exempt you from the PAS requirement that you must be a member or sponsored by a member of a designated society to submit an abstract to the PAS/ASPR meeting. Selected abstracts will be chosen for symposium or poster presentations.
If you would like further information about the symposium, or PGPR please contact us. If you wish to attend the symposium, please register for the PAS Meeting at www.pas-meeting.org
